It is said that 2 to 3 millions years back, the Sundarban was under the sea, and it is believed that perior to sixth century, there were completion of formation of deltas of Sundarban due to huge deposit of silt by slow flowing of the mighty rivers Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna, at the nerrower sea interface of the zone.

It is generally believed that the name Sundarban means in bangla beautiful forest. This name has taken from the mangrove trees of Sundari of its forest. Sundarban is located at the south east corner of West Bengal. The total island of Sundarban are about 102. Among this 48 are in forest island and 54 are in logicality. Sundarbans are spread across two districts of West Bengal North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas. Sundarban National Park is The area of the Sundarbans National Park is 1330 square kilometers.

Sundarbans is one of the unique natural wonders of South Asia. The island is about 10,000 sq km in India and Bangladesh and is notable as the largest mangrove forest in the world. It is a delta of the two great Indian rivers, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra which transforms into a Bengal basin.

The major wild animals are seen in Sundarban forest like Birds, Mammals, Snakes, Reptiles, Crocodiles, Lizards, and many kinds of salted fishes.

Sundarban is known for Mangrove Trees and world famous Royal Bengal Tigers. And also it is a biggest delta in the world. Sundarban National Park was declared world heritage sites On 4th May 1984 by UNESCO.
